Flor y Canto monoprints
Flor y Canto is a new series of monoprints dedicated to my parents. This series acknowledges my parents’ early courtship by incorporating repeatable relief icons similar to Mexican milagros, small religious charms traditionally used as votive offerings or petitions to saints representing requests for healing, protection, or good luck. In this series and the newer monotypes in this gallery, I have used personalized “milagros” of hands, legs, my mother’s eyes, my paternal grandmother, pre-columbian glyphs for speech, song, & rain, decorations from the Virgen de Guadalupe’s dress, and toads.
